Connecting the city’s innovation ecosystem towards sustainable development: The case of Barcelona’s Science Diplomacy

This panel will feature the case of Barcelona as a pioneering city in using science and innovation as a tool for climate action. This session will explore the topic through different perspectives, with representatives from diverse sectors such as the government, industry and academia. In this sense, this dialogue will highlight different experiences with climate action related to city-level research, policy and innovation. This session will also explore an innovative approach emerging from Barcelona's science, technology, and innovation ecosystem: SciTech DiploHub, the Barcelona Science and Technology Diplomacy Hub. SciTech DiploHub is a pioneering nonprofit public-private partnership backed by leading research centers, universities, non-profits, start-ups, corporations and public institutions that positions Barcelona as a global lab in science diplomacy for cities worldwide. It has the mandate to elevate the role of science, technology, and cities in foreign policy and make Barcelona a more influential player on the global stage through its contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and climate action.
