The COVID-19 pandemic has deepened structural inequalities and challenged many of the certainties we had before, highlighting the critical role of Local and Regional Governments (LRGs) as public service providers and caretakers of their communities. Resilience is a cornerstone of the new social pact that the constituency of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) has adopted, with ‘Planet’ as one of its main axes, stressing the need for an ecological transformation for our cities and territories as we build back better, leaving no one and no place behind.
At the occasion of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, this session will provide an engaging space to discover innovative learning tools for city officers, practitioners, academics, civil society, and other stakeholders working at the local level, and foster dialogue around the five main topics highlighted in the Resilience Learning Module II: Strategies & Actions, which will be officially launched at the session:Scientific evidence to understand the context / Enhancing Social & Economic Resilience / Managing Resilient Urban Development / Fostering Regional and Ecological Resilience / Effective Response, Recovery and Building Back BetterDeveloped by UCLG, UN-Habitat and UNDRR, the Resilience Learning Modules build on the work done by numerous cities, regions and their associations, together with local and international partners to accelerate resilience building and climate adaptation.Join us to engage in a unique game on Renaturing Pathways, discover the learning modules, and be part of the cocreation of a global resilience roadmap for local and regional governments!
