The City of Madrid recently presented its recovery strategy in the aftermath of the pandemic crisis. The Madrid Plan for Recovery and Resilience (MPRR). The MPRR includes a pipeline of already approved projects for a value of 3.9B and has been designed in line with the EU and National priorities for recovery. As for the EU, the Green Deal is the main driver for the recovery of the city and within this context the City as identified the Metropolitan Forest as a flagship project for recovery. The city of Madrid has a density of well-developed aspirations in the domain of Nature-based solutions like the Metropolitan Forest project. To deliver such aspirations at scale, there is a need to further embed their ambitions across different policy silos, in particular aligning with the field of health (preventative and mental health) to unlock delivery and funding opportunities; understand options for financing green infrastructures, particularly on the basis of multiple (social, health, economic) impacts and new data strategies; and to unlock mass civic participation at scale, both in terms of raising and awareness, and in term of enabling it through governance innovation.
