Nicolas Maggio

founder and CEO of the FOVISEE Foundation and Weatherizers Without Borders - Argentina

Bio

Nicolas Maggio is the founder and CEO of the FOVISEE Foundation and Weatherizers Without Borders. Early on in his career as a sociologist he identified a gap in the Argentine public and non-governmental sectors regarding energy poverty. The issue was excluded from the public agenda, which implied the lack of local knowledge production on residential energy uses and home sustainability, as well as the absence of energy efficiency policies. In this context, in 2010 Nicolas founded FOVISEE with the aim of tackling these issues by consolidating a field that integrates housing, energy and sustainability, and assisting governments in translating these ideas into programs for low-income neighbourhoods. In 2014, Nicolás, together with partners from the United States, founded Weatherizers Without Borders (WWB), an international organization with the goal of creating global partnerships for fostering weatherization and home sustainability around the world. So far, FOVISEE and WWB have worked in 11 cities across Argentina, Uruguay and Chile, putting energy efficiency in the public agenda and developing policies tailored to fit the local housing and energy needs.
