Mutarika (Mai) Pruksapong

Mutarika (Mai) Pruksapong, Programme Management Officer, UNDRRMutarika, often known as Mai, joined the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) in September 2017 as a Programme Management Officer of the Global Education and Training Institute (GETI). Based in Incheon, Republic of Korea, she is responsible for capacity building programmes in the areas of risk reduction and resilience building and the use of tools to enhance planning capacity for risk-informed development, particularly at the sub-national level. She also serves as a global focal point of the Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030) initiative and its predecessor, Making Cities Resilient Campaign (2010-2020), managing and monitoring projects, and collaborating with various partners on urban resilience.Previously, she worked for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Thailand focusing on capacity building of national and sub-national governments in mainstreaming DRR for sustainable development, reviewing public expenditure and institutional arrangements for improving disaster risk governance, and fostering social innovations for DRR among citizen and private sector. She was a key player in strengthening multi-stakeholder partnership in DRR in Thailand. She earlier served as Training Manager for the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) based in Thailand and was an author and editor of various publications on DRR with vast experience in training facilitation and curriculum development, supporting clients in more than 25 countries globally.Mutarika obtained her first degree in Economics from Thammasat University, Thailand, and completed her Masters and Ph.D. in Organizational Development from Kyoto University, Japan.
