Cr Amanda Stone

Global Executive of ICLEI, Local Governments for Sustainability - Australia

Bio

Cr Amanda Stone was elected for a fourth term to Yarra Council in November 2020 as a representative of Nicholls Ward. She served as Yarra’s 2008-09 and 2016-17 Mayor. During her time on council, she has driven climate change action, resulting in an ambitious Climate Emergency Plan to help residents and businesses shift to a carbon positive world and a safe climate future. A community activist involved in campaigns to protect Yarra's liveability, environment and heritage, she believes that the challenges of a changing city can only be met by council in partnership with the community. An advocate for a green and sustainable Yarra, Cr Stone believes it is important that we continue our efforts towards a carbon neutral city and that we ensure the most vulnerable in our city are not unfairly impacted by the effects of climate change. Cr Stone is a Board Member of Yarra Energy Foundation, serves on a number of not-for-profit organisations involved in social justice and the environment, and chairs the Collingwood headspace Consortium. She is also Chair of the ICLEI Oceania Regional Executive and an advisor to ICLEI Global on Nature, Biodiversity and Ecosystem Restoration
