Principal Advisor for City Diplomacy and International Affairs - Madrid City Council
Nicolas Gharbi is an urban and regional planner, expert in governance and territorial investments. After starting as researcher and project officer in the Domincian-Haitian border, Peru and Portugal, he has started his career at the European Commission, first as policy analyst and responsible negotiator for the urban and territorial dimension of European Investment Structural Funds for the 2014-2020 EU budget and then as Policy Coordinator for Multilateral Urban Affairs at the European Commission for 7 years. He has been responsible for the multilateral dimension of EU urban policies and the EU lead technical negotiator at UN urban related negotiations, while he continued contributing to the analysis, design and implementation of the urban and territorial dimension of EU policies, including the current EU Multi-annual Financial Framework. He has then joined the Madrid City Council where he's Principal Advisor for City Diplomacy and International Affairs. Is also a member of the International Society of Cities and Regional Planners and an expert of several UN and OECD urban related expert groups.
