Bio

Maria Yeroyanni has been working in the European Commission since 1993 dealing with different files related to project and policy management of natural disasters, earthquake resistant constructions, landslides and soil management, waste management, energy efficient districts including the historical ones. In the last 7 years she has been working with the file on sustainable urban development, promoting a cross sectorial and holistic approach. Maria states: 'Cities are considered ecosystems and systems of systems, where challenges such as energy, climate change, mobility, circular economy, nature-based solutions and food, urban biodiversity, health and wellbeing, social innovation and inclusiveness interact and co-exist'Maria is a co author of recent publications to support the implementation of the Horizon Europe Climate Neutral and Smart Cities “EU Research and Innovation for and with Cities”, which is a mapping of all existing cities relates projects, initiatives, platforms, networks, programmes , across all Commission Services and the factsheet providing a summary of the urban mapping report and a few flagship EU funded projects with clear impact on cities and citizens quality of life.https://op.europa.eu/en/publication-detail/-/publication/9a58ddbf-ef4c-11eb-a71c-01aa75ed71a1/language-en/format-PDF/source-232294747
