Lina Messina is the Mayor of the City of Darebin, a former Deputy Mayor and Independent Councillor in the City of Darebin since 2016. She has over two decades experience as a small business owner and for over a decade has worked as a professional in the Aged Care and Disability Sector.Her delegated roles have included: Pandemic Officer for the Vulnerable, Aged Care & Finance Professional, Chair of the Local Government Waste Forum, Executive Member of Melbourne Transport Forum, Director of Melbourne Innovation Centre, Chair of Darebin Women's Advisory Committee, Chair of Preston Business Advisory Committee, Member of Strategies and Policy Advisory Group – MWRRG, Melbourne Italian Fiesta Committee Member, CEO Employment Matters Committee, Audit & Risk Committee, Multicultural Regional Advisory Council Member, and Planning Committee Member.Mayor Messina, and her fellow eight councillors, were elected in 2020 and are working together with their community, businesses and other service organisations towards the Vision of their community. Under their 2021-2025 Council Plan, Darebin is continuing to lead with their response to the climate emergency by updating their Climate Emergency Plan to set out how to best achieve zero greenhouse gas emissions for Darebin by 2030, offering solar installations and energy retrofits to pensioners and vulnerable communities, delivering new business and community power purchase partnerships, supporting a shift to a circular economy and massively reducing our waste going to landfill, and delivering projects and programs aimed to improve safety for people cycling, walking and wheeling, increasing active travel which will also reduce transport emissions.
