Governance
I4C conference sessions and the conference outcomes will be “knowledge-generating”. The use of
innovative techniques for designing the conference sessions with the objectives to capture the nature of
knowledge generated as a result of exchanges and presentations between practitioners and scientists
shall be the key focus of the I4C conference. This will provide critical input to
COP 26, and the
Special
Report on Climate Change and Cities in the IPCC AR7 cycle.
The Innovate4Cities Conference is managed by an Executive Management and Decision Group (“EMDG”), the Organizing Committee (“OC”), a Science and Innovation Steering Committee (“SISC"), and a Partners Network Organizing Committee (“PNOC”).
The Innovate4Cities Conference is managed by an Executive Management and Decision Group (“EMDG”), the Organizing Committee (“OC”), a Science and Innovation Steering Committee (“SISC"), and a Partners Network Organizing Committee (“PNOC”).
Organizing Committee
The Organizing Committee (OC) is responsible for overall conference planning, fundraising,
communication and outreach, speakers and participants mobilization, and reporting. UN-Habitat and
the Global Covenant of Mayors (GCoM), co-hosts of the I4C conference, are part of the organizing
committee. In accordance with the decisions of the Executive Management and Decision Group and the
Science and Innovation Steering Committee, the Organizing Committee is responsible for planning,
budget, and fundraising, communications, logistics, thematic content, and conference agenda as well
as liaising with the event management partner.
GCoM and UN-Habitat will ensure an efficient interaction between all committees and organizations
via the Executive Management and Decision Group, also involving the GCoM Research & Innovation
Technical Working Group that secures the long-term continuity of the Innovate4Cities Initiative and
Agenda.
The Executive Management and Decision Group
Comprised of representatives of GCoM and UN-Habitat (both co-hosts of the I4C conference), this
group meets on a bi-monthly basis to monitor work plan milestones, providing strategic advice and
feedback, and endorses all financial and operational decisions of the conference. The group serves
as the chief coordinating unit between the SISC and PNOC to ensure synergies in the respective
committees’ functions and deliverables. In particular, the EMDG is the custodian of the overall I4C
program architecture.
The Science and Innovation Steering Committee
coordinates the substantive conference programme inputs and oversees the conference’s objectives and
proceedings.
This committee is co-chaired by a representative of the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate
Change (IPCC).
The Partners’ Network Organizing Committee
is co-developing the conference programme through member and partner outreach,
content development and linking relevant programming and initiatives.
